Mud Room Re-do

So After I started working on my mudroom one thing led to another and. . .  Well I started painting.  I went to the paint store and picked out the brightest yellow you could find!   The paint man thought I had lost my marbles.  But it turned out to be our Sun Room, instead of Mud Room.  Which I prefer.  Take a look.

I also painted my trunk hot pink and limegreen, along with the deer antlers!

Okay, so i didn't just paint!  I also sewed up those pillows and that long cushion.  I went to the flea market and found this old twin size rod iron bed and I had to have new artwork!

Twilla- Mudroom- Texas Inspiration

Ramsey and Logan "helped"
So, my dear friend Twilla, who lives in New York and whom I havent seen since I quit doing MaggieNMe trade shows, still sends me cast callings, and the latest in magazines inquiries.  So she sent me this one today, and I decided to take her up on it, and send it into Working Mothers magazine.

Here is the project, transform your "mud room," with a new novel idea to organize and get those kiddos to put things up and make it still look cute!   So ofcourse I initially thought of Pottery Barn's adorable bins and baskets and fabulous bench seat with hooks.

So I looked around my house, and said, I can create that!  Come on. . .  And I did!
What I used as my new novel idea, is I grabbed my picnic bench sitting outside, and used it for my storage area.  I placed a few sage green star hooks above it, within the kids reach so they can hang things up themselves, and added a few baskets underneath to collect all their things.
Baskets on top or shoes on top it works either way. . .
My sweet front porch.  I am about to get rid of that old piano today, and put a twin bed there, and make some big pillows out of outdoor fabric, to create a kind of day bed area.  I want this porch to be more lazy, where you could sit out here and read a book and then fall asleep for hours.
Voila. . . . .
The end result  of my new Storage area- Mud Room!

Our little sitting area on the porch.

Pillows made the paper.

Our Story.

Peace out.

We made some hippie chic bedding a while back, and I believe it was all to get this peace pillow created.  In the end it is the only thing that mattered.  She is so much fun!

Zebra zebra zebra

I always think Im done with zebra, but somehow it makes its' way back into my life.  It is my favorite accent.  Im glad other people still agree we need it.

In the Beginning. . .

This was our first "real" design job.  I was so nervous, but looking back it was actually good.

Cowboy still gets me.

This dark denim cowboy duvet was always cool.  Now ironically it is in my own home on my boys beds.  Yes, this exact same duvet.  (we made a matching pair)   I sold it to a store who sold it to a lady who brought it back to the store.  Now, my kids love it!  Except one time I was dying for red pompoms, so I ripped one of the duvets up to get the pompom, so now I use one of the comforters as a bed skirt, and I keep saying im going to get on the sewing machine and fix it, so their room looks like this.  One of these days. . .

This was an old license plate that we made into one of our signature pillows that matches the country flair.

NM Story

Once upon a time we sold a lot of pillows. . . .

A return to the Classic

I go back to this room because it is so pretty.  I have done alot of over the top rooms, but Im still most proud of this simple elegant room.

fabrics selections of modern fantasy

Isnt it fun playing with fabrics?   Isnt that half the fun of being an
"interior designer/decorator?"
These fabric selections are for two little sister who want to be different but love the same style.  So I broke it down by using their favorite colors: turquoise, purple and lime option.

This is the hot orange and fucshia w/ leopard fabric groupings for the younger sister.

Passion Pink

Pink Pink Pink, and more pink.  What I loved about this room is the black n white polk a dots fabric.  And we ended up using her grandmothers gold antique mirror behind the big fur headboard to cover up the chandelier cords, because we did not have time to make scrunchies.  Later we went back into the room and made hot pink satin chandelier scrunchies like you see here, but kept the fabulous mirror!

Boston job. . . oh yeah we renizzled it.

Option A. or Option B.

Option A.
I like giving my clients a couple options.  What I have found is I stick with my same vision, but I give them option A. or option B.  Both of which I would be happy to end up with.  And in the end they truly feel like they are making the decisions.

Option B.

My favorite chair

I loved this chair.  It basically was a cupcake that woke up one day a chair.
Really I painted the old upholstery on the wing back of the chair with fanciful stripes, and then re-upholstered the seat cushion and made a cute little tu-tu flange skirt that pops with luscious roses!

Kids Magazine. . .

We have had many write ups, but this one was the most exciting!  After showing at the Vegas Kids Show we were scouted out by the editor for Better Homes and Gardens as a New Product Feature!!  It was our 15 seconds of fame!

Drama Queen

This Drama Queen bed was fabulous if I do say so myself.  We had it custom built a few times.  I think the best version was my brothers.  The intricate detail was deserving of royalty.  I loved our satin duvet and pillows too!  The whole thing was almost Disney it was so over the top.  This bed did not sit long in our studio, A. because it was so darn big! and B. because evertime we got her finished with all the hand painting etc. she sold!

We did Drama Queen so many different ways, I think she became our "Signature Style."

Orange anyone?

I would like to call this room our Orange Sherbert room, but it was more orange than sherbert.  What i love about it now, and didnt at the time is the silver flange around the pillows .  Its so 80's! This room reminds me of one big Prom dress!  Granted we decorated this room in 2006 but I think the 80's have even gotten more popular this past year or so with rayban glasses etc.

Drawings anyone?

Window Treatments for Hopes room.

Vanity drawing for Holly's room.

Tutti Frutti and "Marsha Marsha Marsha"

Rainbow Bright lamp with Gerber daisies was hand painted and our Tutti Frutti pillow-Brittany.  My mom painted the rainbow art on the wall.

This is our Tutti Fruitt bedroom with Marsha Marsha Marsha 1970's hippe fabric.  We had her in our showroom on South Congress.

Grown Up Living room

Is this not to die for.  I want to sit down and read a novel in this living room with endless espresso coming my way.

Luscious Lady

This is our original Name Pillow.  This pillow carries alot of love, since we basically forged a whole business around it.  Sometimes I wish it could have stayed this simple.  Maybe we would still be in business?
The name Lavander Luscious Lady- M 12"x18"

Bella

Bella was a royal design job.  I loved sewing up her valance and bedding.  The colors were so rich for a 7 year old, but I think the room grew up with her.   We used yellow,  robins egg blue, baby pink, taupe and fucshia dupioni silk with lots of hits of leopard!

Hope Floats

One day I went to the PO Box and got a letter from a little girl named Hope.  Unbeknowngst to her mom, she wrote us the sweetest demand letter to decorate her room in Shreveport Lousianna.  Well since we were located in Austin and this poor little girl seemed to have little means, I told Abby, well we have to atleast send her a pillow with her name on it as a surprise!  It was then when they received the pillow that her family found out about how percocious their little "hope" was.  And then shortly thereafter, they paid for us to travel to Louisana and  decorate all four of her girls' rooms.   It was a fantastic experience, and quite frankly a bigger job than we had ever done before.  I love that, b/c that day when I opened her letter I received so much faithful encouragement, but little did I know she was to be one of  our biggest jobs to date.   So sweet.  And if I could live in anyone of our clients rooms, it would definitely be Hope's.
Here is a shot of Hope's bed and her funky lime green lamp by Slip.

lavander room

This room was decorated for a true princess.  Or atleast after she slept in her bed she felt like one.
